Shifting Plans…

“The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps” (Proverbs 16:9)

Well, we thought that we’d lined up some wonderful opportunities to serve in Slovakia and Kyrgyzstan, but through some clear direction and some unforeseen circumstances, it seems like the doors to travel to these areas of the world this Spring closed (Brent will still teach online for Gateway College in May, but will not likely travel there in the coming couple of months as planned).

However, even with the initial disappointment that we had once realizing that these opportunities would not come to fruition right now (hopefully in the near future though!), a door very quickly opened up, almost simultaneously to the door closing to travel to Europe and Central Asia, to contribute to some work occurring in a new country: Guyana. Brent & Christy have been invited to travel to Guyana in March to address urgent mental health needs in this nation. We will be based in the capital city of Georgetown, hosted by Global Workers Amar & Nadi Ram, and there Brent will work with local police officers to help them address and recognize mental health issues, as well as secondary trauma. Christy may have an opportunity to pour her love and encouragement into a group of abused women who Nadi meets regularly with. We also may visit a local prison and do some counselling/encouraging for the people there, in addition to other trainings and sessions offered to other workers in the area. We are really excited about this opportunity, and though we still have a heart for the other areas of the world that we had to cancel, this new unforeseen trip softens that blow a bit, as we will be able to serve in a nation that is working hard to develop a mental health crisis that is persisting in this region of the world. As always, thank you for your prayers as we get ready for this amazing opportunity!
